2018
(9–12 November)

Weather perfect, eight contenders, some very interesting handicaps and three great courses on offer for the 14th running of the imperious Binningup Open and the superb hospitality and catering of the chief Manager and Executive Chef of RA Golf Course Tours. It was to be a competitive weekend on and off the golf course and a withering last round.

Walks opened with a fantastic 46 at Bunbury on the Friday and Macca wouldn’t lie down, nipping at Walks’ heels with a 42. Squancey, with a 36, joined these two boys on the podium. The greens were like putting on glass, they were fast … many short putts missed.

A solid start . . .
. . . and liquid finish

The first 9 at Binningup belonged to Squancey, as he collected all 3 long drives on his way to 18 points. Les, the late starter ... all the way from Walpole that morning … fell one short of matching Squancy. Phil made the podium on a countback from Jacko. The greens were superb.

Sanctuary was memorable with RA Golf Tours organising a tee off at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11 month. All players wore a poppy to mark the occasion and a minute’s silence was held, standing in front of the 1st hole sign where a small wooden cross and the Aussie flag were pushed into the grass. Ron, Walks and Macca battled for places on the podium, with only 2 points separating them. The greens were horrid, testimony to the corporate day traffic on the Friday.

Les was tinkling the keys magnificently to a captive audience . . .
. . . well, almost

And the Black Tie Dinner stand-out ? . . .

At least 5 players were in contention going into the second 9 at Binningup with Walks's nose 2 points in front of Maccas. But whatever was in Ron's whisky was the envy of the rest as he set a record 29 points for 9 holes playing arguably one of the best games of his career, reeling off 4 consecutive pars, 3 bogies and 2 double bogies. Les also had a day out with 19 points and Phil made the podium with 15. Little Master couldn't take a trick all golfing weekend only outplayed once for the NAGA crown.

Finally, Macca’s quote “What’s the matter with these guys? …Don’t they know they are missing the best 4 days of the year!”
